Objective: To discover how cultural enterprises create social value and contribute to community development and societal well-being.

Materials Needed:

  • Computer with internet access
  • Chart paper and markers (as part of the thinking process)

Duration: 2 hours

Instructions:

  1. Select ONE enterprise based on the following list:
    • Museum
    • Theater
    • Art Gallery
    • Community Arts Project
    • Cultural Festivals
    • Heritage Sites

  2. Conduct your research to cover the following areas:
    • what the cultural enterprise is about
    • what is their role at preserving and promoting culture, arts and heritage

  3. Create Presentations:
    • Prepare presentation slide with audio/text notations
    • what the cultural enterprise is about (2 slides; 2 minutes)
    • what is their role at preserving and promoting culture, arts and heritage (2-3 slides; 2-3 minutes)

  4. Post and Discuss:
    • Post your slides with audio notes in the Discussion Forum below within the set due date for this activity.
    • Review the slides shared by other class members of this group and provide constructive feedback/discussion covering:
    1. concept of social value - share your thoughts on what social value means and how cultural enterprises might contribute to it.
    2. Highlight key points such as community engagement, education, social cohesion, cultural identity, and economic benefits.
