Activity 1: Cultural Practices and Movements Analysis
Objective:
To analyse the historical context and theoretical frameworks of
different cultural practices and movements, fostering critical thinking and
understanding of cultural diversity.
Materials Needed:
- Access to library resources, online databases, and scholarly articles
- Presentation tools for slide creations
Duration: 2-3 hours
Instructions:
- Select ONE Culture Practices and Movements based on the following list:
- Surrealism Movement
- Renaissance Art
- Hip Hop Culture
- Japanese Tea Ceremony
- Feminist Film Movement
- Indigenous Storytelling Traditions
- Surrealism Movement
- Conduct your research to cover the following areas:
- historical context in which their assigned cultural practice or movement emerged
- explore key events, societal influences, political climates, and economic factors that shaped the development of the cultural practice or movement
- collect evidence of artifacts and artworks in relation to your topic for the third step.
- Analyze the key Artifacts and/or Artworks.
- Conduct visual analysis and interpretations of the collected artifacts and/or artworks that highlights specifically its contribution to the culture practices or movement
- The minimum number of artifacts and/or artworks to compare for visual analysis is 2 items
- You may use tables, charts or matrix to categories your analysis
- Conduct visual analysis and interpretations of the collected artifacts and/or artworks that highlights specifically its contribution to the culture practices or movement
- Create Presentations:
- Prepare presentation slide with audio/text notations
- Overview of historical context and key events (2 slides; 2 minutes)
- Explanation of theoretical frameworks and ideologies (2-3 slides; 2-3 minutes)
- Analysis of specific artifacts or artworks (2-3 slides; 2-3 minutes)
- Post and Discuss:
- Post your slides with audio notes in the Discussion Forum below within the set due date for this activity.
- Review the slides shared by other class members of this group and provide constructive feedback/discussion covering:
- Identify common themes, connections, and divergences across different cultural contexts
- impact of cultural practices and movements on society, identity, and artistic expression
- reflection
how their insights and your insights are similar or differ
- Your discussions ought to cover for one topic that is the same as yours, and one topic that is NOT the same as yours.
