Activity 3C: Community Mapping Exercise

Objective: To share reflective views on a case study review.

Materials Needed:

  • Computer with internet access
  • Google Map
  • Chart paper and markers (as part of the thinking process)
Duration: 1- 2 hours

Instructions:

  1. Turn on Google Maps.
  2. Find the map to the local area of an existing cultural enterprise (e.g. museum, art galleries, community centers). See example below.


  3. Capture the screenshot of your search (see example).


  4. Review the map to suggest potential ONE NEW INITIATIVE that could be developed to SUPPORT this cultural enterprise with the objectives to further enhance social value and community development.
    • Do consider factors such as target audiences, potential community benefits, required resources, and possible challenges for your suggested initiative.
    • Mark on the map - where this initiative can take place. It can be a collaborative space (e.g. cafe, book, hotel).
    • Save this new marked image for group discussion posting.

  5. Open a new discussion thread to highlight your selected cultural enterprise.
    • Paste your new marked image. 
    • Share your initiative ideas and factors. 
    • Reflect on the feedback by peers.
    • Comment to highlight on one feedback that is impactful to your initiative.
