LO 3: Apply Design Thinking Principles

Design thinking is a human-centered approach to problem-solving that emphasizes empathy, creativity, and iterative prototyping. It's a methodology used to tackle complex challenges and develop innovative solutions by focusing on understanding the needs and experiences of the end-users.

The 5 Stages of Design Thinking.

  1. Empathy: Allows you to gain an empathetic understanding of the problem you’re trying to solve, typically through user research.
  2. Define: Analyse your observations and synthesize them to define the core problems you and your team have identified.
  3. Ideate: Start to “think outside the box”, look for alternative ways to view the problem and identify innovative solutions to the problem statement you’ve created.
  4. Prototype: Experimental phase, and the aim is to identify the best possible solution for each of the problems identified during the first three stages.
  5. Test
