General Education Assessment Plan: A Four-Tiered Approach. The Journal of General Education

Planning is an essential component in the assessment process, and a structured, four-tiered approach can streamline the design and implementation of a general education institutional assessment plan. Utilizing direct and indirect measures is vital for comprehensively evaluating learning outcomes. Indirect measures, such as student perceptions of achievement, are valuable as they can be applied to larger samples and complement direct efforts. The dual purpose of general education assessment is to meet external accountability requirements and to facilitate institutional curricular improvements. Therefore, assessment reports should be tailored to meet the specific needs of various stakeholders.
