When a corporation extends across regional borders and boundaries, RM evolves into a global environment. Asian civilizations are characterised by a communal attitude in which choices are made with the group as a whole in mind. This is in contrast to American civilizations, which place a strong emphasis on the individual.
A global HRM must be flexible enough to accommodate local cultures to a fair degree while enforcing the company's culture uniformly.
Among the characteristics of a global HRM are:
- A global HR staff that understands what can be adapted to local circumstances and what cultural values must be maintained consistently across the firm. This means periodically preparing new trainings and cultural journeys for all staff.
- All subsidiaries get routine training and retraining on corporate culture.
- A worldwide leadership group that exemplifies the organization's core principles.
