SHRM is not used by academics and professionals out of self-interest, in my opinion at least. 

The work environment needs to change, employees' expectations continuously changing and companies have to adapt their SHRM, in order to attract new talents, reduce turnover, create a good brand image and so on. 

I think that SHRM is a way to show that society is constantly changing and companies must adapt to be competitive and make profits.
