Effective people management is key to ensure efficiency and growth of an organisation. The first step towards this is to acquire a set of employees with the best skills, for instance through rigorous assessments and selection processes to make sure they are a good fit. However, this does not guarantee their optimal performance. It is vital for a leader to listen, create a nurturing safe environment and to guide their team towards development.

For instance, Amazon is well known for its training programs under the Amazon Technical Training Academy which prepares non technical employees to move into software engineering careers. It boosts employees confidence and allows for them to take on different roles within the company.

Similarly, Google ranks on top of companies providing the best employee benefits. Some of their perks include flexibility in work schedule through a hybrid work model. It also demonstrates the value of supporting employees and their families (e.g. healthcare benefits, parental leave for both parents, death benefits for the spouses, etc.). By providing such benefits, employees will be motivated to perform better and continue thriving in that space.

Above mentioned are just few of the many ways that create a productive and happier workforce. There are five key components which works together to people management and which helps retain the best talents better.

1. Create -  
Building a workforce begins from talent acquisition to employee development, creating a team requires the right set of tools. This includes using the right platforms to acquire the talent. employee branding and creation of the right team structure.


2. Comprehend - 
It is important to understand the employees that previously and currently made up the organisation. Practicing active listening is key to understand the different talents and traits that individuals have. It also creates an environment where they will feel heard and safe to voice out their thoughts and input on work.


3. Communicate - 
When different types of individuals work together in a team, an open channel of communication and feedback is an effective tool to manage people better. This allows for easier conflict resolution and deeper understanding of each other.

4. Collaborate - 
Working together as a team rather than individually is more effective. Creating better outcomes through sharing and delegating the right task for each individual will bring about the best results. 


 5. Confront - 
Facing and acknowledging the diversity amongst the work force in healthy and positive environment can help avoid/reduce conflict which is a vital component of people management.
