With reference to the case study, Alpha shows an ‘adaptive or poly centric approach’ as it commits to the recruitment of locals from the host countries to the extent possible. While this allows to build a workforce with knowledge of local market and environment it brings along critical challenges for the MNE. They are faced with the constant need to balance between ‘push for control from headquarters’ and ‘pull for autonomy from subsidiaries’.
To resolve the challenges faced, Alpha could use other recruitment approaches. A regio centric approach may work better as it focuses on recruiting expertise native to the region with a deeper understanding of the market and can tailor the strategy to fit the company’s goals. It is also important to note, the effectiveness of each adaptive approach to global HR depends on the type of organisation it is - as demonstrated in the case study, emerging firms are ‘mixing and matching’ progressive HR policies and practices in the cross-integration of business and people management.
