Activity 4

Activity: Developing Data Collection Techniques for Specific Research Scenarios

Instructions:

1. Scenario Assignment: Below are three research scenarios. Select one scenario to work with.

  • Scenario 1: Investigating the relationship between work-from-home practices and employee productivity in a corporate setting.
  • Scenario 2: Exploring the impact of mindfulness meditation on reducing anxiety levels among high school students.
  • Scenario 3: Examining the influence of digital learning tools on the engagement levels of primary school students in science classes.

2. Develop a Research Question: Based on the scenario you chose, formulate a clear research question. For example, if you chose Scenario 1, your research question might be: How do work-from-home practices affect employee productivity in corporate settings?

3. Select Data Collection Techniques: Determine whether you would use qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods for your research scenario. Justify your choice by considering:

  • The nature of the data (subjective experiences vs. measurable outcomes).
  • The depth of insight required (exploratory vs. explanatory).

4. Design the Data Collection Instrument: Based on the technique you selected, design an appropriate instrument:

  • For Interviews (qualitative): Write 3-5 open-ended questions that you would ask participants to gather detailed insights.
  • For Surveys (quantitative): Develop 3-5 questions with a mix of Likert-scale, multiple-choice, or numerical response options.
  • For Observations (qualitative or quantitative): Outline what behaviors or events you would observe, how you would structure the observations (e.g., checklist, rating scale), and how you would record the data.

Post you answer and comment on one of your peer's posts.
