In this LO, you should be able to differentiate between primary research and secondary research.

What are the differences in primary research and secondary research?

Both are important in your research.

  • Basically, primary research involves gathering data directly from the source, while secondary research involves using data that has been collected and published by others.
  • Primary research is based on raw, unprocessed data, while secondary research is based on data that has been analysed and filtered.

  • Primary research requires active participation from the researcher, while secondary research involves the summary or synthesis of existing literature.

To ensure that you have a good understand of both types of research, now, let’s watch this video about the differences of primary research and secondary research, as well as the importance of both types of research for academic purposes.
