By looking into the case of AT&T, there are a few areas which highlighted the positives:

The staff:

Refined course materials that do not go into niceties allows participants to fully focus on what is required. The participants do have their jobs to do and thus having a refined course materials helps in reducing time.

The management:

The management sees it as two fold:

a) cost and time reduction

b) achieving the objective of ensuring the staff are trained

Mitigating reputation risk:

By analyzing and understanding what is needed for the development of the training syllabus, it potentially boost staff morale as they see the refreshed syllabus as equipping them with knowledge to assist in their work and in turn makes them a much "cleverer workers", resulting in enhancing  morale and confidence.
