Importance of people management

Being from the small island nation Maldives, I have seen that even while many organizations concentrate on hiring the best people, they don’t often realize how to manage and support them. I think people management is as important as talent. A prime example is a resort group called Soneva, voted by many as the best in the business, which advances its own driven workforce with strong values, training and trust. It has allowed them to create a devoted, high-performing group of employees. Our small country has no so much talent that good people management can't help make a difference between limited success and long-term success.

On the contrary, I come from China, a country with a population of 1.4 billion. We have no shortage of talents. Therefore, personnel management has become the least valued department. The large personnel turnover has led to waste of resources, leakage of intellectual property, and other problems. How to truly make personnel management generate quantifiable value - this is a very important aspect for me.
