As mentioned in the notes attached in the chapter, the foundation of SHRM literature is "manpower" planning, however it was created by significant management experts, underlining the significance of efficient people management as a source of competitive advantage that drove academics to create frameworks highlighting the HR function's key role. Both the "rational choice" and the "constituency-based" approaches can be used to explain why academics and practitioners are interested in connecting the strategy idea to HRM.  Based on a constituency approach, it is stated that HR academics and HR practitioners have hold SHRMS as a means of respecting the field of study and its appearing more strategic in case of HR managers.
