Why have academics and HR professionals embraced SHRM?

Human Resource Management (HRM) and Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) are similar concepts however the key differences is what typically leads to academics and HR professionals leading more towards SHRM.

Traditional HRM focuses more so on the management of individuals within an organisation focusing primarily on short term day to day activities and employee management not accounting for the long term goals of the organisation which typically makes it more administrative and operational. SHRM builds on the traditional core operations of HRM and includes the strategic goals of the organisation within its processes; SHRM aligns the HR operations with the strategic goals of the business merging it with the business strategy.

With all these features SHRM offers, it is a more expanded and well thought out HR management process that in theory should provide long term success for the organisation as it takes the businesses strategy into account.
