The evolution in HRM is seen with the creation of a Global Mobility function to bridge talent skills gap while managing intense competition for talent. The underpinning social and economic reasons for this transition is as follows:-
- Economic - Increasing globalisation due to rapid business and technological change, creating a borderless workplace and the need for new career and job models.
- Social - Shift towards emerging markets, whereby emerging markets are seen as "emerged" now, and talent cannot simply "parachute in" easily because there is a need for leaders who understand local culture while carrying enterprise value.
