I agree that SHRM is a legitimate and necessary evolution of HR, especially in today’s fast-changing and competitive environment. As someone from the Maldives, I’ve seen how businesses, especially in tourism and service industries, perform better when HR practices are aligned with business goals, whether through workforce planning, leadership development, or performance systems. While it's true that both academics and HR professionals may gain from promoting SHRM, that doesn’t weaken the business case. In fact, the stronger involvement of HR in strategy helps organizations become more adaptable and people-focused, which is essential today. The real issue is ensuring SHRM is applied meaningfully, not just for appearances.
Why have academics and HR professionals embraced SHRM?
